Cheap Divorce

Probably the most common question I am asked is "how much will it cost to get divorced." Of course the person is looking for the least expensive divorce.
There is a secret to getting divorced with the least amount of cost and stress, it is an agreed divorce, and many times costs less than 10% of what it costs to have a contested divorce.
Here is how it works: you and your spouse come to my office seeking a divorce. You (together) tell me all the terms you want included in your divorce, including property division, child support and custody, and name change. I prepare the paperwork, file it with the court, and in as little as 61 days the judge will sign your divorce.

I have often explained it like this... let's say you have $10,000 in a marital account. You can each give $5,000 to a lawyer and fight like cats and dogs over everything, which is great for the lawyers but leaves you with no money, or you can do an agreed divorce and keep most of the $10,000 and split it however you want. The choice is yours. Unfortunately most lawyers try to steer you into fighting because it makes the lawyer wealthy (and often does not benefit you at all).

Along the same lines... court costs can often be reduced or eliminated in an agreed divorce setting.

So I always recommend BEFORE you both go hire attorneys to get divorced, come see me and see if we can save you a lot of money and still get what you want.
